Three weeks in, and Rex is starting to settle into the new apartment. He was mostly unpacked, but not fully organized yet, but was closer to work, which is nice, and his new roommate, who had lived there for years, wasn’t half bad either. Obi-Wan Kenobi was a teacher, although Rex wasn’t sure exactly what he taught or where, and he kept very reasonable hours.

Half the reason Rex had needed to move was that he worked days, and his brothers Kix and Jesse, who he lived with previously, worked nights. And didn’t seem to understand how to be quiet when they got home after shift. And frequently set off the smoke alarm with their attempts at cooking. Rex loved them, but he had been glad to move out. The spectacular bathroom in the new place – well, that was gravy. Old Yoda who owned the place could have easily charged a lot more in rent than he did.

As he approached that spectacular bathroom, Rex hesitated. Soft music was echoing from inside, beneath the steady splash of the shower. Quiet humming gave way to song, and Rex leaned back against the wall, eyes widening as Obi-Wan’s voice gained in strength.

Rex didn’t recognize the song – it was in Italian, he thought – but damn the man could sing. Perhaps he taught music? Rex thought, but quickly discarded the idea. While Obi-Wan often listened to music, this was the first time Rex had heard him sing. Which kind of sucked, because Rex had work inside of an hour, and he’d much rather listen to that glorious voice all day. 

Obi-Wan exited the bathroom still humming, flushed from the warmth and steam. He flushed even brighter when he realized his new roommate had heard his morning recital. Rex just smiled in a way Obi-Wan was hard pressed not to think of as charming. It was a bad idea to get involved with his roommate, he’d proved that quite ably during the tumultuous residence of one Quinlan Vos.

“Oh, sorry,” Obi-Wan deflected.

“Don’t be, that was lovely,” Rex returned, and they flushed in unison. “I should-” he began, gesturing over Obi-Wan’s shoulder.

“I’ll just-” Obi-Wan said at the same time, and shifted to one side, out of the doorway. Rex unfortunately stepped in the same direction, and they did the awkward time honoured shuffle until Rex placed his hands on Obi-Wan’s bare, damp shoulders and moved them both, almost as if dancing. If it were possible to blush any more brightly, Obi-Wan would, in that moment, have discovered how. “Right then,” Obi-Wan mumbled, and scurried off. Rex couldn’t help but watch him go, admiring the lithe musculature of his flushed and freckled shoulders and back.

“Kriff,” Rex swore under his breath. He was in trouble.
