Peter Haimerl’s Refurbishment of an Old Farmer’s House in the Bavarian Forest.

Reactivating ailing structures and reinventing their user concepts with a clear idea about the significance of their cultural heritage: For Peter Haimerl who recently won the Bayerischer Staatspreis für Architektur 2018, those guidelines are part of every day live.

“The traditional blockhouses in the Bavarian Forest exhibit a high degree of craftsmanship. That is immediately evident in the detailing of the quoins. After I had studied this building tradition for a long time, I came to recognize that in many cases the houses were not far removed from nature. You can see how thin the layer between nature and culture is.“

Updates to the Star Wars Legends fandom tags

Hi Star Wars fans!

You may have noticed that the Star Wars fandom tags on AO3 can be a bit difficult to navigate. We don’t want to make you feel like you’re doing a Kessel Run every time you post a Star Wars fanfic, so we’ve decided to clear a path for you by moving a few black holes around – namely, the Legends Era tags. If you have been tagging a specific series or using the “Star Wars Legends – All Media Types” tag, you probably won’t notice any changes.

Era tags were our (failed) attempt to use the established canon eras to divide 26,000 years of Star Wars history into chunks. The Eras are, in practice, hard to define and were based on major in universe events. Several of the books and games fall into multiple eras, straddle the division between eras, or span all eras. To add to the confusion, several of the Legends eras have the exact same names as the Disney canon Eras. To be frank, the situation has become untenable.

What are we doing with them? Most of the Legends Era tags are going to be merged into “Star Wars Legends – All Media Types”. New Jedi Order is going to be kept separate and renamed to a Series tag, as it’s essentialy been used as a series already. We’re also moving “Star Wars Legends (Dark Horse Comics)” and “Star Wars Legends (Marvel Comics)” into the “Star Wars Legends – All Media Types” tag and subtagging a couple of fandoms that were accidentally connected to another series.

If you think a work will get lost in the AMT tag, you can always change the fandom tag to a specific book, game, or comic series. For example, if a work stars X-wing pilots in the New Republic Era, consider changing the fandom to “Star Wars Legends: X-Wing Series – Aaron Allston & Michael Stackpole”.

Hopefully, when we’re done the Star Wars tree on the Archive will make more sense and be easier to navigate for all involved.

As monarch butterflies are not able to survive the cold winter months in the north, each year, starting in about October, they migrate south and west to spend winters in California or Mexico. In the photos above, millions of monarchs hibernate in the oyamel fir trees that grow in high altitudes in Mexico.

i spent christmas alone while my family got together and fought, and honestly i feel so good about this

i bought myself presents, cooked a big meal, drank wine and watched Home Alone 3 w/ my dog. I don’t feel sorry for myself at all.

meanwhile my sister threatened to disown my dad so he threatened to disown her, while my mom enabled and my other sister downed a bottle of wine to deal.

on the other side of the country, i was busy discovering, to my delight, that the that the 3rd installment of the Home Alone franchise not only stood up to the test of time, but contains some of the best oneliners and comedic timing I have ever seen.

honestly, keep toxic people out of your life. family isn’t everything, and bad family is often worse than no family. don’t be afraid to put in some distance, especially during high stress times like the holidays. you don’t actually owe them anything.

being alone for the holidays is so much better than being with people who make you unhappy.
